Fire is beautiful. Not if you're a tree or a bird. Or if it's devouring your house you may think otherwise, but the mountains are not the things that live on them - the trees and birds and people.
I can't ask the mountains if they think the fire is beautiful, but I can watch them quietly exhaling the smoke. And after the fire is out I know they will still be there, gray and lonely, though not for long. The trees will regrow. The birds and people will come back and rebuild their nests.
From The Ojai Valley Museum: "The exhibit features artwork in response to the Thomas Fire, the largest wildfire in California history. With over 70 artists working in a variety of mediums, there will be artwork about the fire, its aftermath and recovery. "

Art City: Body of Proof Exhibit
The Ventura Artist Union presents "Bodies of Proof" a show curated by Sylvia Raz & Gayel Childress:
"I believed, and still do, that our bodies are our selves, that my soul is the voltage conducted through neurons and nerves, and that my spirit is my flesh."
- Ta-Nehisi Coates
Held at the Art City Gallery, this multi-media collection of work from artists in both Ojai and Ventura is ready to palpitate the soul and stir our noetic ideas on the body from the ephemeral to the sensual.
My piece, Hans, is laser engraved acrylic on canvas. This vintage strongman contrasts with the modern male ideal which focuses on extremes of physicality and violence.

Crooked Media Portrait Mode
I was a finalist in Crooked Media’s Portrait Mode contest.
When drawing Donald Trump, no reference photo is necessary. You could nail it based on a couple of audio clips and a brief description of his personality.
It would help if the describer had a familiarity with Yiddish; the only language really up for the job. He is a schlub¹. A schmuck.² A schmendrik³. He is a groyser tsuleyger⁴; an alter cocker⁵ who has aged into a caricature of his worst attributes. He is a cow's head.
If you broke down his history to an alien portraitist, she would paint Scotch tape on his tie as a metaphor for his fercockt⁶ presidency. But he really does this!
May he be the proof that America can endure anything.⁷
1 schlub [shləb] Literally: a feed trough. In Polish, zlob is slang for a stupid person and in Russian, zelob is slang for a miserly person. Yiddish meets them somewhere in the middle.
2 schmuck [shməck] An intentional jerk.
3 schmendrik [shmen' drɪk] An unintentional jerk.
4 groyser tsuleyger [grɔɪ’ sər tsu leɪ’ gər] A sarcastic way of saying “big shot.”
5 alter cocker [ɑ̃l’ tər kɑk’ ər] Literally: “old shitter.” Which is literally Donald Trump.
6 fercockt [fə kɑkt' ə] All fucked up.
7 Based on a classic Jewish curse.
